Activities: Pen pals. While students might not be writing writing, they can write (or draw and dictate) communication to other people. Team up with your local nursing home to give elderly the therapy of receiving and writing back.
Class Books. Students work together in small groups, individually, or as a whole to create books for the reading area.
Journals. Using students' classroom journals to record special events or weekly documenting their school experiences can expand their understanding of why people write.
