May is OVER

Marvelous May? May Flowers? Whatever, it's been busy!  The beginning on the month was the rush of Field Days and Spring Flings and last day of school (pre-k got out ten days early so my daughter and myself have had extra time to enjoy summer). Once school let out, I made a calendar of possible activities for us to enjoy with our summer time.

Hey, we only missed on doing two things, that's pretty impressive I think. Oh, scratch off the Tour Lane Packing for today. We rocked that!

Oh!  And I totally had a Scentsy party this month.  It closes out tomorrow so, if you want anything go here, select my name, and buy some Scentsy.
Will I hit all of the items next month? Maybe, family picnic is on next month's calendar and my husband isn't entirely fond of the who picnic idea.  Maybe I should keep up the calendar thing through the school year too. We'll see how that works out for me or not. I do like to plan things out.
I need to nap now.

Summer Wreath (Crafting is Not For the Weak)

This summer I made up a calendar of things to do. We've gone on field trips, played in the sprinkler, and we've made some crafts. Oh, the crafts..  How hard can crafting be? Let's look at today's craft: a summer wreath.
First, I took down a noodle from the water wall, hot glued a dowel rod in the openings then duct taped it into a circular form (for a how to on this, visit here).
Then began the yarning of the noodle.  I twisted and knotted and spun and wove.  "This will look nice, summery, and cover the noodle," I thought as I doomed myself to more work than necessary.  (I used a chinese staircase wrap, how to is here but you can really use any style wrapping that you prefer).
It was about here that I started hating what I was doing while my daughter gave up watching me to go play teacher instead.  So much noodle to cover!

After an hour and twenty minutes, we see it is only half done. Half done. Not how long I intended to be making a wreath today.  Well, lunch pause for beef stew and then let's knock this out!
And the joys of getting caught and tangled in the process. I just want you to be pretty! Stop fighting me on this!  Release me so that I might complete my task!
About here your arms start asking you if you're done yet. You lie to tell, telling them you're almost done but you know after it taking an hour and twenty minutes to make it go halfway around that they really have probably 45 minutes to an hour left of work. They don't know that, keep lying to them.
Then you finish wrapping it as the last ten minutes of wrapping your daughter has come to cheer you on "Do it, mommy!"  And I did. I finished what I set out to so today.
Throw on some tiny umbrellas and you did it! Maybe you'll take it down later and make it look even better but for now, you've accomplished your craft. Reward yourself with a nap.

Queen of Cups

Okay, so let's go ahead and clear this out of the water. Why call the blog Queen of Cups? I did think about going back to my old blog title of "Silent Siren" so why the change? Well, "Silent Siren" was the name of my blog from ten years ago. Ten years.  Not that "Silent Siren" does not mean anything to me now or that I've detached from it, that is not true.  I just felt that in creating a new blog that it should receive a new title, not recycling from something I've already used.
So on from "Silent Siren" and back to "Queen of Cups."  It's a card title much like "Queen of Hearts" but more commonly seen in card decks from Italy, Spain, and tarot.  The tarot meaning of the card (in simplest terms grabbed from wikipedia):
"The card depicts a mature woman of fair-complexion and golden hair who holds a lidded cup. She is described as a model of a loving virtue, one who is purer of heart than most, a loving mother and a loyal friend. The inverted card may warn the querent of a false lover or a deceitful friend or companion who pretends to be of a pure heart but is treacherous and manipulative.
While I do enjoy changing my hair color back and forth, I do feel the meanings of this card are reflective of myself.  I don't know about the purer heart than most but I do love my daughter very much and every child that enters my classroom.  I love and support my friends openly.  Maybe I'm wrong, you're welcome to interpret it as you think it might be so.
Once again, we return back to why will this be called "Queen of Cups" and the answer is simply this: because it is catchier than "Megan Wants to Blog Again."

New Beginnings

Hello blogger, we meet again.  So why come back to you after all this time?  I suppose having to come back to blogger for a college course has revived the spark that never really goes away from blogging.  I return to blogger as an educator, a mother, a wife, and a collegiate student.  While I carry these titles, I try to do more.  I'm part of a book club and I enjoy crafting, of nearly ever sort!  From crocheting to canvas, from sewing to working my hot glue gun.. I like to craft it all!

I've missed the blogging experience.  Maybe you've missed me too?
